Art Meets Fashion
I do some fooling around on Polyvore, but there are some people who are super hardcore. There are some people who create some seriously amazing fashion boards on there...and in abundance. Take this amazing series of art inspired outfits, for instance. I totally happened onto this and was completely blown away! I love that there some are quite literal and some are more interpretative. Give these a look and then see more here!

Wedding Wednesday: Short, Sweet, and to the Point
There's so much pressure to go traditional and wear the long dresses on your wedding day. But the more I think about it, the more I think a short dress would be so sweet, too. Check out this sweet, little ensemble. It's romantic, but without a lot of fuss. Wouldn't it be perfect for a late summer wedding??

I'm Happy Just to Dance With You

It has been an exhausting week! I'm winding down on work before my much needed vacation, and am putting together a list for all that I need to accomplish over my vacation. I'm also a bit sad. We transplanted a bunch of the squash plants this week, and then had a really bad storm yesterday which basically killed all but two of the plants. Good thing I have stunt squash in the greenhouse! I'll swap them in next week, assuming it doesn't rain all week like it's supposed to! Will this garden ever get planted people?? I wonder sometimes! We also put in some baby flower plants and some pumpkin plants. The tomatoes, which took a hit last week with a different storm (we lost one plant), are finally looking good, and the turnips and radishes in the hoop house are still thriving. I have some beet plants growing, but most of those seeds and the carrots were a loss. I am going to try again next week, but we'll see how it goes.
While this is my first time in a long time planting in a real garden instead of a container garden, I have to tell you that this has been one of the worst planting springs in a long time. It was constantly cold until a week or two ago, and now it's raining all the time and alternating between cool, sunny, perfect weather; humid, hot, disgusting weather; and pouring down rain. It's awful, and has made for an awful first year of this huge gardening project. I feel like I have a lot to prove, and I feel like I'm failing because of things that are out of my control. Surprisingly, my biggest concern (pests) hasn't really been an issue. Anyway, I will take some pictures next week and share with you soon.
In the mean time, I only have two more engagement shoot inspiration posts. I've been perusing a lot of wedding sites lately to find inspiration for our own (post-) engagement shoot. Two weeks ago, I showed you my bowling inspiration shoot, last week, it was my rowboat/picnic inspiration, and this week, we have another picnic, this time a bit more vintage in style. Katie and Jeff's adorable engagement shoot was shot by B. Wright Photography, two brothers who take such lovely photos. These images remind me of The Notebook, too, which make me really love them. Aren't these two adorable?

So beautiful! I wish we lived near a waterfall! Next week, I'll show you the final inspiration for our own (post-) engagement shoot. Then, in July, I'm going to show you some inspiration boards and tell you what I'm thinking we'll do. I think I've finally come up with a plan!
Until then, here are your dance moves for the week:
For a minute up there, I committed the ultimate sin and forgot the name of the movie The Notebook. I googled it, remembering it right away, but one of the results was the hottest thing ever. You must go watch this. Have fun cleaning your brains up from all over the floor! Because they're gonna explode!
Recently, in my pins, I got a little obsessed with Angelica Houston. She was so gorgeous!
Plus, check out this interesting post on a portrait of her mother!
I think I would have peed my pants if A.P. had done this to me.
The world's most disturbing wedding photos.
Beautiful Alice in Wonderland inspired baby shower!
Turn an old cabinet into a garden!
No sew scalloped shorts! Too cute! Rock a cute black pair with a pair of red espadrilles and a red and white striped nautical top!
We finally got our oven fixed and I'm thinking about baking these to celebrate! Maybe too labor intensive? What do you think?
Have you seen Bridesmaids yet? I'm obsessed with Kristen Wiig, both before this movie and after. Check out this fashion board inspired by her wardrobe in the movie!
That's all she wrote! Have a wonderful weekend! We're running errands and relaxing. What are you up to?

You Can Dance...For Inspiration

The countdown is on. Today, I'm wrapping up a major project at work. Then, next week, I have one more and then it's smooth sailing until my vacation! Sweet! I have so many things I need to accomplish while on vacation, and over the summer while things are a bit calmer at my job. The list keeps getting longer and longer, too.
One of the many things I want to accomplish this summer is to get our engagement shoot photos taken. I know, I know. We've been married over a year, so why are we just now getting our engagement photos taken? Well, with all the crap that happened during our engagement, and the fact that we planned a wedding in five months, we just never got around to it. Now, over a year later, and we still haven't done it. Part of my problem has been that I don't really know what to do in these photos. I thought about paying extra to ask her to go on our hot air balloon ride, but A.P. wisely pointed out that other than the initial photos and the end photos, they would mostly be landscape photos and close-ups. Plus, we might like a little variety, instead of just one setting.
So, lately I've been on the hunt to find some good inspiration. I know that normally on Friday dances, I feature a real wedding, but for the next couple of weeks I'd like to show you some engagement shoots that have been galvanizing me into action to get these pictures taken already! Plus, once this is done, I can cross another thing off my list! Woohoo!
This first engagement shoot comes from Rock My Wedding. The couple, Star and Kane, did their shoot in two different locations. Both are cute, but this half has me smitten. The photos were taken by Darren Wong, but the entire concept was created by Thaoski. I, of course, love the vintage clothes and look, but the idea of a bowling alley is so genius! Check it out!

Does your heart not melt at the sight of these photos?? Too adorable!Today, A.P. is on a business trip, which means a fun drive to the airport for me later tonight. Other than that, this weekend I plan on chilling out with the hubs, grabbing some brunch with a friend, and perhaps working on my own little back porch garden. What are you up to? Whatever it is, I hope it's wonderful! Here are the rest of your dance moves for the week:
Best trash the dress ever. Period.
Love these Restoration Hardware kid's rooms!
Disney inspired eye makeup
A town with no roads
I'm considering making this while A.P. is out of town tomorrow night. This would have been my single girl staple, I think, if I didn't like to cook.
How to make a heart-shaped egg
The ultimate rainbow cake
Life without art
Why I really love A.P.
And here are several NTMK posts you might have missed in May:
The tough parts of marriage
My hoop house
Bohemian wedding inspiration
Vacation home dreams

Casual (Everything)
Last week, I gave you a look for a fancy night out on the town. In the comments, I was asked by Mimi to do one on how to look good in sweats. Done and done. Because if there's any look I like the most, it's casual chic. 90% of the time I'm in tight jeans, nice boots (usually my Uggs...it's like walking through the world in slippers), a white t-shirt and a tunic sweater or a tunic top, and a colorful scarf. That's easy. If my Stripes Every Day photos prove anything, it's that I dress super casual 95% of the time. It's how I live.
In making these boards, I tried to keep a couple of things in mind: 1. How can you look chic and be comfortable? (The answer is leggings and tunics.) and 2. How can you transition that look into nighttime and still be comfortable? (The answer is shoes and a good blazer.) Here are two takes on casual day, and a transition of one into a nighttime look. Mimi, you're welcome.
First up is a look I call Casual (Mama). It's perfect for if you're running errands, leaving the house for five minutes to go rent a movie, or whatever, really. I put Mama in parentheses because this is also totally an outfit I feel I would wear if I was at home with a baby and had to leave quickly to go run some errands. In fact, this was what I wore when I nannied. It's quick, comfortable, pee-proof (or easily cleaned), and easily dressed up with accessories. I also tried to pick items that were cheap, because let's face it, we all could use a break on our wallet. And if you're a new parent, you have diapers to buy, not $700 sweatpants.
The next two boards are really two-in-one. The first board is a daytime look and the second one takes the first's staple pieces and dresses them up for a night on the town. I picture both of these looks with the same hairstyle, specifically some sort of braided bun that falls right above the nape of your neck. Something like this:

This is an easy hairstyle to take from day to night. You can wear the fedora over it for a casual daytime look that hides the sun, and it can be your sophisticated updo for your night on the town!
Here's Casual (Day)! This is perfect for running errands, having lunch, working from home, or taking the little ones to the park. Again I aimed for less expensive pieces, with only the watch and the shoes costing a little more money. I figure that those are pieces you would invest a bit more money in anyway. I also couldn't help but throw in the funny "Arg!" necklace, which perfectly sums up how I feel about once an hour.
And here's Casual (Night). Perfect for a night on the town with your significant other, your gal pals, or your bad self. Again, the most expensive pieces are the shoes and the blazer, both simple, classic pieces that would be an investment.
Hope you enjoyed looking at these boards as much as I enjoyed making them! If you desire more looks, leave requests in the comments. I'm addicted to Polyvore, and need fuel for my fire.
