Wedding Wednesday: Including Children in Your Big Day

One of my favorite movies (with one of my all-time favorite actresses, Meryl Streep) is One True Thing. The movie tells the story of a career woman (Renee Zellweger) who has to give up her job and move home to take care of her dying mother (Meryl Streep) with whom she was really close. At one point, as Meryl Streep's character is getting closer to death, she starts giving her daughter all this advice to keep in mind after she's gone. One of the things she tells her is to avoid having children in the wedding. She claims, "those kids always just misbehave and they distract from the bride." I can't tell you how many weddings I've been to where this exact thing has happened. Inevitably, the flower girl sits down because she's tired of standing there with her basket of rose petals. Or the ring bearer starts crying and fussing because he can't be by his mother. At the same time, they are impossibly cute and it's so nice to involve young family members in your big day.

So, what do you think? Do you include the little stinkers in your big day? Or keep your wedding party adults only?

And for fun, here's one of my favorite kids in wedding moments. Remember this?
