(Late) Spring Cleaning and the Wonderful World of Silk Screening

So, I've been a bad little blogger lately. Since I graduated, I figured I no longer have an excuse to not clean up around the house. So, I've been doing massive cleaning projects around the house. I found my desk buried under piles of data and books. I cleaned and re-organized our hall closet. I did all my filing. It's been a long process, and I'm not done yet. There's still the bedroom. Since I moved in with A.P., a little over a year ago, we have had a messy bedroom. We just got stuck in a rut, and haven't been able to get it together since. That changes this week. It's my goal to finish cleaning this house, and then attack the job search in a nice, clean house. I was going to get hardcore this week and start pounding the pavement looking for a job, but I figured it might be okay to take one week off, seeing as how I just finished school last week. No more than a week, though. In fact, if it seems like I'm blogging a little too much, feel free to harass me a little via the comments.

Anyway, last weekend, an art store that I have a membership to gave a free silk screen printing demo, and A.P. and I went. We made t-shirts (see below)! Now, if you're me, it was a fun day. On a scale of 1 through 10, 1 being a bore, 10 being super awesome, it was a 10! For A.P., who to my sometimes disappointment is not as artistically inclined, it was a 3. However, for some time, I've been debating about designing and DIYing our invitations, and I've been contemplating silk screening them, but didn't really know anything about it. Turns out, it's pretty easy! I didn't buy any of the materials, yet. I figured I'll be pretty busy for the next month, so I won't have time to mess around that much, so I put off buying all the materials. But now, I constantly dream about silk screening and all the cool t-shirts and posters I'm going to make.

Did anyone else DIY their invites? Or some part of it? Am I going to be in over my head??

  1. Silk screening gets a little complicated if you are making your own pattern. Vellum, photo emulsions, and dark rooms oh my. That said, once you prepare your screen you could crank out those invites. I vote go for it!

  2. I'm soo intimidated by silk screening, which is why I bought my gocco. But a bit too late since they're no longer making the supplies for it.

    I can't wait to see your projects and (crosses-fingers) step-by-step instructions. :)

  3. So is the verdict in? Will you by silk screening your invites?
