Tag! I'm it!

So, Musing on Beauty tagged me to participate in this fun little picture tag. I'm a sucker for walks down memory lane, and it sounded like fun, so...I'm in! Here are the rules:

1. Go to the fourth folder where you store your pics in your computer (don't cheat...unless what happened to me happens to you).
2. Pick the fourth photo in the folder.
3. Explain the picture.
4. Tag 4 people to do the same

I'm also adding this rule:

5. Link the person who tagged you, and (try to) update your original post with links to the photo tag posts of those you tagged. We'll start a little link party, too!

Okay, here's the thing (there's gotta be a thing, right?). I really am not trying to cheat, but the 4th, 5th, and 6th photo in the 4th folder of my photos area on my laptop are all corrupted. Ahhh!!! So I pulled this photo from my old laptop. I figured that would take us way back anyway, and then we'd, you know, have some real memories to discuss. Ha! There were also only three photos in the 4th folder, so I took the 3rd, figuring that was as close as possible. Anyway, I got a little excited because it's a super old photo, from before I met A.P. I'm super skinny in it, and I'm also super tan. I'm tanorexic! Hahaha, but not really.

This photo is pre-digital. I took this and scanned it in for a photo project I did a long time ago. Look how pretty and skinny I was! It makes me sad I look the way I do now when I look at old pictures like this. What's even crazier is that I got even skinner than this before I met A.P. I was biking 10 miles or more a day and lost a ton of additional weight. And I still thought I was fat! Oh what I wouldn't give for that body now! Ugh...

Okay, so the photo was taken in Telluride, Colorado. I go there every year for the Telluride Film Festival. I want to say this was taken my first year (2004?). In fact, I'm almost certain it was. This photo is also very timely, given that I just submitted my application to this year's festival last week. Each year, I volunteer to slug popcorn and soda and coffee and hot dogs to extraordinarily wealthy people in sometimes freezing cold temperatures all so that I can see movies before they come out and see famous people talk about the movies they've directed/starred in/produced/written/whatever. It's awesome! It's also exhausting. Especially since it's often hard for me to take off more time around Labor Day weekend (which is when the festival is held each year), as I'm sure it is for a lot of people since a lot of people like to travel this weekend.

My first year, though, was the most exhausting. We signed up to volunteer 3-5 hours and they signed us up for 35 hours. It was so nuts. We were constantly working and it was just go, go, go. We got to see a lot of great movies, and I was awestruck, as I always am, by the sheer beauty of Telluride. I got to see Kinsey and Finding Neverland, as well as some others! Since then, I've had the opportunity to be in the first audience to see Juno, Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours, Black Swan, Margot at the Wedding, and so many, many more. It's been an awesome experience over the years. And now that I have my awesome digital camera, it's gotten even better! Now, I get to take photos of all those hot actors and famous people. Sweet!

As I've gotten older, this trip has evolved into something else. It's time away from A.P.. It's a time for my friend who I go with and I to vent about our problems (sometimes me more than her). It's funny though because this girl has never met my husband. We used to work together back when I was in advertising. She was my client, so we've never lived in the same city. She comes into town all the time, but it's for day visits usually, or overnight and she's out with clients. Plus, she's a bit strange and probably wouldn't call me if she had the time. She's only ever called me when she was in town once. When we got married, she had a family obligation, and so couldn't attend. So for whatever reason, she's never met my husband. We see each other once a year, and talk a few times in between. It's a strange ritual, but I love it. A.P. has never gone with me, and even though I've offered, he's always turned me down.

Telluride has become my last hurrah of the summer for the past seven years (six really since one year they lost my application and I didn't go). Every year when I go, it's refreshingly cold, especially after a long, hot summer. Each time, I have to unpack my fall clothes to pack for this trip, and so it's become a ritual that ushers in autumn (and hair straightening season). Plus, I get to see great movies with people who love movies as much as I do. And if I'm lucky I get to sit three seats away from James Franco! These last few years, I've been acutely aware that this can't and probably won't go on forever. One day, I will have kids, and probably won't always be able to go on this trip. So each year that I get to go, I'm even more grateful for the opportunity.

This was so much fun to do! Thanks for the tag, Mariella! And here's who I'm tagging:

1. Mimi
2. Sommer Hiaro "woman in Arawak"
3. Kiara King
4. Alotta Lettuce

And here's the link love:

If you'd like to participate, simply post a photo according to the rules, tagging four people in the process. Give me the link in the comments and I'll add it to this post! Yay!
